## 2026-10-01 — Remote desktop keeps up, a smaller notice, a simpler viewer `api 0.118.0` `web 0.144.0` `agent 0.30.0`
**The picture keeps up.** On a large screen the agent managed 3 or 4 frames a second while anything
moved, for two reasons. It encoded the whole screen several times over, on one core. And ordinary
activity — a scroll, a window switch — was sent as the entire screen. It now encodes each pixel once,
in strips on several cores, sends each strip as soon as it is ready, and sends only the area that
changed. Measured on a 5120×1440 screen: a full repaint went from about 550 ms to about 40 ms, a scroll
from about 650 ms to about 20 ms, and a typed character from up to 190 ms to about 2 ms.
**The pointer no longer trails yours.** While you have control, the remote pointer is no longer drawn
over your own, and its position is sent before each frame rather than after it. That lag is what made
every movement feel slow.
**Clicks and keys are no longer lost.** The viewer sends a gesture — a click is a move and a button —
as one message, and sends keys as soon as they are pressed. The agent no longer refuses input that
arrives while it is still answering the previous batch, which happened to several percent of quick
inputs. It never injects input more than 150 ms old.
**Less old picture queued on a slow link.** The server opens a session with 320 KiB of credit instead
of 1 MiB, then sizes it to the speed the viewer actually receives at. A slow connection no longer
holds a second of stale pixels in front of every click.
**A smaller notice on the watched machine.** The banner is now a compact pill at the top centre of each
screen, with a small amber dot: 553×34 pixels on a 5120-pixel-wide screen, where it used to be a band
of 5120×72. It carries the same sentence, never shortened. It is still on every screen, still on top,
and still a condition of the session: if it cannot be shown, nothing is captured. The preview under
**Settings → Remote desktop** now shows the pill rather than a strip.
**A simpler viewer.** One toolbar, icon buttons with tooltips, and no paragraphs. The copy of the
banner above the screen is gone. The session list hides Windows' services session and the Remote
Desktop listener, and calls an empty console "Sign-in screen". Screens are numbered 1, 2… instead of
by Windows' internal number, and the screen list appears only when there is more than one.
**Fixed along the way:**
- Choosing the screen you were already watching no longer fails after two seconds.
- After a change of screen, the viewer no longer throws away every frame until the next pause.
- A session opened at a sign-in screen now names the person who signs in.
- The session record counts input while the session is live, not only once it ends.
**For whoever reads the agent's log:** each opening now records how long each step took, and each
input batch that times out is noted.
Update the three together. Nothing in the server's configuration changes.
