## 2026-10-08 — Choose between JPEG images and H.264 video from the remote-desktop viewer `agent 0.45.0` `api 0.127.0` `web 0.154.0`
The remote-desktop toolbar has a new "Picture mode" menu, with a film icon. It switches the picture
between JPEG images, which keep text sharp and use little bandwidth when little moves, and H.264
video, which stays smooth for animations and video playback. The switch happens during the session,
without reconnecting: the picture redraws itself whole in the new mode within a moment. The browser
remembers the choice and asks for it again at the start of the next session. A view-only operator
can switch too, since the mode only changes what reaches their browser.
The menu appears only when both modes are possible: on a Windows agent, in a browser that can play
the video. If the machine's video encoder gives up, the picture falls back to JPEG as before and the
status bar says so; choosing H.264 again tries the encoder once more.
Update the API, the web image and the agent release image. No database update is required. With an
older agent or an older API the menu is not shown and the picture behaves as before.
